I'm a Pecker...
I'll admit I am not a professional typist. When I choose to use my computer keyboard, my method could best be described as a pecker. Mainly, I rely upon a few key fingers to actually make contact and strike the tabs. I do not fully trust my digits to hit the correct keys and I pride myself on being a pretty good speller. My fingers, if left to their own devices, would create some interesting and controversial versions of words. Typing at a moderate controlled pace is still preferable to my illegible scrawl. This technique works for me, but it is not impressive. Recently, my nine-year old granddaughter, Emily, was standing at my shoulder as I translated my crazy handwriting to the typed word. She just had to say something. "Nanna, why don't you type like a grown-up?" I wasn't offended. I tried to explain that I type the way I do because I appreciate accuracy. I don't want to have to reread my entire piece of writing to correct spelling errors or replace missing punctuation. As I peck along, I am also in editor mode, sometimes choosing to substitute a word or rephrase a sentence. She didn't seem too convinced by my excuses. She just rolled her expressive brown eyes when I then said, "Because I want to, that's why."
