Do you enjoy keeping up to date with local and global news, why or why not? I find the news boring and depressing. The focus is usually on what has gone wrong in the world. The negative aspect puts me off. Having to read and report on news items during the 30 Day blogging challenge was probably the most difficult of all the days. I am thankful that the last Sunday News Day is done for the month of January. I don't mind the funny bits. Yesterday I reported on a video I had seen on Facebook going viral - a police officer lip syncing to "Shake It Off" while driving his cruiser on his route. It was priceless. Sometimes the funny of life makes up for the flatness and the violence and deception of the world. I get much of my 'news' on Facebook - usually it has a more flair and fun to it. Though some of it is serious - like one I read today about people advertising that they are moving and need to give up their pets... they are threatening to kill the animal or take it to a Kill Shelter. One woman drove an hour and a half to save the dog. Another woman posted that she was disgusted that people were doing this and she mentioned that she was keeping her sometimes annoying dog and her new kitten who has feline AIDS and needs expensive medication. Animals are family people, you can't just give them away. I will at times watch local news, now that we get it on our cable channels. I want to know the weather and a few of the basic headlines so that I have a clue about some of the news. It is mildly embarrassing not to be able to contribute to conversations if I don't know what is going on. 4. Who is the one person who can make you laugh like nobody else? I have a friend that I met my first year of university. We met in a introductory macro economics class. It was an elective we had chosen and it was boring but meeting Candy made it not so bad. We giggled through to much of that course. Laughter got us through many assignments. We learned we worked well together. Since we were both studying Sociology. We did quite a few classes and assignments together. Each time was great. We have a lot of things in common. First our birthdays are 2 days apart - January 12 and 14. We are both teachers - though she does high school and I do elementary. We also have a similar sense of humour. Candy is the type of person that I may not see for long stretches of time, but when we get together it is like we haven't missed anything. Over the Christmas break we got together for lunch. We checked out a place she had gone to with her mother the week before. It was a fabulous little nothing of a place, but the food was amazing. (For my birthday I took my mother to that restaurant knowing she would like it as well). We went shopping afterward. We didn't buy much but we had fun. I tried on hats and made faces that had us in stitches. I commented on some of the very pricey, odd outfits. It was the best afternoon. I always find spending time with her energizes me and I glow for hours afterward. I hope she feels the same. |
