Overcoming Writer's Block

Blog City – Day 256

Everyone has their method of madness to overcome writer's block especially those of you doing NANO, what's your secret?
I hear people talking about morning pages, or writing about the goals for the day. Then I hear other people talk about taking notes ahead of time for their writing. Do you do silly writing games like word clusters or word associations? Do you look at pictures? Listen to specific music. Or do you just force yourself and hope for the best.

I start my mornings writing 750 words on 750words,.com - it is like doing your Morning Pages only it is done on the computer. I find I come here and start to write - I write to my blog prompts and get them done for the day then, because of Nano, I move into story. I check where I left off the day before then go. I try to leave things so that they can move forward when I come back to it - sometimes leaving a note abbout where it is I am planning to go with tthe scene so I can finish it. Other times, I may do some story notes first - particularly when I left the scene done.

Yesterday, I had the day off and I read all day - taking the break, well, we just hope I can refocus today after giving myself the break - permission to enjoy a book that may help my own story.

Today I am working so I will not be back to the novel writing until tonight. I will check to see where my writing is going before I leave and let it percolate - with any luck I will have enough energy to do some writing tonight after I get home.

I have a basic outline, but I have already veered off from that plan - in a way, I have gone back a bit to add in a subplot that I believe will help round out my story - giving me a tri-vecta of bitchiness. I am liking where it is going.

I am currently at a place where conflict is building - I have a character using her money and connections to manipulate her fellow interns - one will be doing her work for her, another will have his heart toyed with (for fun) and my main character... well she knows something is up. She will be uncovering the deceit and confronting the bitch... eventually.
