On the first of five Sundays in August,
I give thanks for the rooster I heard crowing this morning,
for the cloudy skies that foretell rain,
for the cool summer temperature
that encourages me
to open my apartment door
so that I can listen
to the mysterious neighborhood noises.

On the first of five Sundays in August,
I praise the beauty
of a cloudy morning in Las Vegas
by writing poetry
and giving thanks to the Lord
for four more summer Sundays.

On the first of five Sundays in August,
I inhale the beauty of dawn
before I whisper
a prayer of thanksgiving and praise
to the Creator of the Universe.

There are other things besides writing,
besides composing a poem;
it's in the other things
that inspiration
is found.

There are other things besides blogging,
besides sitting down at the keyboard
and creating an entry;
it's in the other thing
that the idea
is found.

There are other things besides writing,
there is a walk in the park,
the neighbor's rooster crowing,
the wind in the pine trees,
a hot cup of coffee,
a cold glass of sweet tea,
a moment of meditation,
a whisper prayer,
etc.

There are other things beside writing,
but after we do these other things
then we pull a chair up to the keyboard
and begin the process
of writing about
those other things.

Beautiful raindrops
descend from dark angry clouds
melting desert sand.

Beautiful raindrops
carried to earth by angels
blessing the desert.

Beautiful raindrops
some call them the tears of God
baptizing the Earth.

Beautiful raindrops
both a blessing and a curse
to desert cities.

Most pigeons can fly
they flap their wings and take off
into the blue sky.

Unanswerable
crowd my mind today
maybe its the rain.

Do most questions fly?
Do they just rest in one's mind
waiting for answers?

It's a weary Wednesday evening
I don't want to sleep,
I don't want to play games,
I don't want to do much of anything.

Driving across town
From East side to the West side
In heavy traffic

Every other Day
Driving across Las Vegas
Lets me get work done at home

'Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.' - Lao Tzu

Spontaneous change
comes from studying God's word
meditation and prayer.

Natural changes
evolutions of the soul
meditation and prayer.

Writing the problem
accepting spontaneous
and natural changes.

Lazy clouds float past
wander haphazardly across the sky
no breeze blowing.

Is that a rooster I hear crowing
ignoring the spirit of the day,
his duty done
he is free to bask
in the morning sun.

Sleep is the best meditation.
Dalai Lama

An afternoon nap
taking less then one hour
a beautiful day.

An afternoon nap
splendid way to meditate
wake happy refreshed.

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.
Robin Williams

You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.
Robin Williams

The world is weeping
death has silenced his laughter
and the voice we knew.

He who puts his trust in God, God will suffice him,
He who fears God, God will send him relief,
Baha'u'llah

Tribulations,
tests, and difficulties
build muscles on the soul.

Prayer
reciting or reading
the revealed words of Baha'u'llah.

Poems
need just the right words
to express faith.

kneeling in prayer
a seeker beseeches God
for love's assistance

facing the east
the lover intones God's names
praise and gratitude

the pine tree across the street
casts long dark shadow

beautiful morning
a rooster crowed at first light
announcing Sunday

"Be patient under all conditions, and put your whole trust and confidence in God."
Baha'u'llah, Remembrance of God, page 1

Today
I place my impatience
and all of my problems
in God's hands.

I take a deep breath,
I place the problem in God's hands,
I take whatever action I can
knowing that the situation
will turn out according to God's plan.

Mirrored acrostic
a difficult form to write
not impossible.

Thursday afternoon
temperatures rising before
Las Vegas sunset.

August afternoon
the last days of summer pass
sun cast long shadows.

Monsoonal moisture
cloudy skies and thunder storms:
when will fall arrive?

Summer poetry
celebrates seasonal rain
temperatures rising.

Writing out the depression
one sentence at a time
this butterfly comes out of her cocoon
while overcoming the depression.

Writing every day
helps keep depression at bay
scatters the darkness.

Dear Lord,

Please help me
deal with the childhood memories
of being bullied
because I wore glasses.

Please help me
spread the message that,
even at 67,
the hurt remains
a thick jagged line
of fibrous tissue
across my soul.

Amen.

I deepen my experience of God through prayer, meditation, and forgiveness.
Marianne Williamson

I empty my mind,
I intone God's Most Great Name,
and then read the quote.

Mind and spirit calmed
I feel the words echoing
my spirit's bird song.

I forgive myself,
and I forgive others too:
inhale forgiveness.

I breathe in and out
meditation's exercise:
exhale forgiveness.

I intone God's praise
reciting revealed prayers:
faith's tranquility.

It's a cafe mocha morning,
the sun is shining,
the rooster is crowing,
and the Metro officers have made the morning drive
up Sunrise Avenue.

It's a cafe mocha morning,
hot coffee
with rich chocolate Oveltine'
and consumed with Twenkies'
for breakfast.

It's a cafe mocha morning,
time to relax,
to intone prayers of gratitude,
to ask forgiveness,
to forgive,
and to smile
at everyone walking past
my open front door.
