Christmas in my Mind

It's Christmas Day without you,
and in my mind
the tree is bare.

It sags with sorrow at your absence,
and casts an eerie shadow
on the walls
and stone floor.

The fireplace is cold,
and waits to warm my aching soul.
I cannot bring myself to light it.

The presents are missing,
and even the lights
have lost their sparkle.

I cannot bear it,
and I go back to bed.
