This is a collection of my "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" entries. |
I got dressed quickly because I wanted to be ready before daddy left. He’s going to Home Depot to get supplies to paint the house. My brothers were up and ready. I came out running still with one leg out of my pants. Wait for me, wait for me! I’m going too!” But my brothers chimed in as always,” You're not going”. “You’re too young”, said another. “They’re right”, my father agreed. “No, I’m not! I’m 5 years old. See!” I was holding my hands out revealing 5 figures. “You have to wait till your older son. I can’t watch you. I’m too busy”. That was always what he says. Why am I always the youngest? I never get to do anything. “You won’t let me do anything”, I said pouting. When that didn’t work I stop and put on the saddest face ever. But that never work on daddy. “He is getting older Ray. You can find something he can help with”. That is my mommy. She'll change my daddy mind. Because she is the best mommy ever. “Ok, I guess he can help paint. But he has to wait tell we get back. I don’t want him to get lost in the store”. “I can paint” I had a smile as pure as any child could ever have. “I paint…I paint…I paint”, I shouted as I ran around and around forgetting I still didn’t have my pants on. “I get to help paint…Thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks”, I keep on shouting. “Calm down Tommy”, my mommy said. My dad left with my brothers as I waited for them to return. “I’m big boy now. I get to help paint. This is the greatest day every!” “That’s right, you’re a big boy now”, mommy agreed.
