A Good Word About The Unforgivable Sin

Matthew 12:31,32 (NIV):
31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

"This is actually a section of the Bible that I worry about A LOT. Last year I backslid big time and fell into Wicca and I turned my back on God. I purposely did the unforgiveable sin to try and establish myself in that demonic religion, but now I've seen that what I did was wrong and I've wholeheartedly come back to God. What I'm terrified of is if I go to Judgement and God sends me to hell for this. I deserve it, I know, but... I couldn't be more sincere about my grief over having done this. God is forgiveness but have I done something that I won't be forgiven for? Can anyone please offer some insight??? Even though I know I deserve it I don't want to go to hell!"

It seems obvious enough to me anyway that you do have and listen to your God-given conscience on this matter.  I believe we need to understand that the meaning behind such verses applies to HOPELESSLY UNREPENTANT sinners.  In addition to the wonderful scriptures Carey has posted, here are some more:

1 Timothy 4 (NASB):
1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.
4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;
5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.

It is obvious to me that you are not a hypocrite as defined in the above verses since you have acknowledged and confessed your sin openly before the LORD (and that as a result, according to 1 John 1:9, "...He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"), and have not seared your own conscience, which in Greek literally means:

These definitions suggest that such people have sinned to the point where they are beyond the ability to even DESIRE God's forgiveness, much less RECEIVE His forgiveness (neither condition of which applies to you), which is especially true when coupled with the verses Carey cited.  I also remind you of Psalm 103 (NASB):

8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

How about you start BELIEVING that the LORD has forgiven you?  As my pastor often says, "not believing that you've been forgiven of sin after truly asking for forgiveness is just as bad a sin as the sin of which you've been forgiven."  But also, I must say this: while hell is so real and lovingly should be spoken in the truth of the Gospel message to all people as far as the consequences of unrepentant sin are concerned, true repentance ought to be TOWARD GOD, and not simply away from hell.

Romans 8 (NASB):
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

Since the LORD hasn't condemned you, nor has anyone else condemned you (as if other people had the right to do so anyway), then based on the above verses in Romans 8, you have NO right to condemn yourself.  So I must ask you to STOP beating yourself up over this, BELIEVE God's forgiveness of your sin, and "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" in accordance with God's Word.
