A Study of the Pattern in Miracles of Jesus, Son of David
I believe Jesus' title as Son of David is a direct reference to His rightful God-given authority not only in a kingly sense as being a direct descendant of David (which although the Bible states that He rightfully was such a descendant, He never claimed a natural kingdom it in any capacity despite the inhabitants of Jerusalem's treatment of Him as an earthly king when they hailed him by the name Son of David as He entered Jerusalem on a donkey in Matthew 21 paralleled by Mark 11.  And He in fact rejected that notion, namely in Matthew 4:1-11 paralleled by Luke 4:1-13.), but also as THE spiritual authority bestowed by the LORD through the lineage of David, to which was referred in the following verses regarding direct references from others with regard to the miracles performed through Him by His Father: (NASB)

Matthew 9:27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"
28 When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."
29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, "It shall be done to you according to your faith."

Matthew 15:22 And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed."
23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, "Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us."
24 But He answered and said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
25 But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, "Lord, help me!"
26 And He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."
27 But she said, "Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."
28 Then Jesus said to her, "O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed at once."

•••••••• Matthew 20:30 And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
31 The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
32 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you?"
33 They said to Him, "Lord, we want our eyes to be opened."
34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him."
•••••••• Mark 10:46 (possible variant of Matthew 20:30-34, and paralleled by Luke 18:35-43) Then they came to Jericho And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road.
47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
48 Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
49 And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him here." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage, stand up! He is calling for you."
50 Throwing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
51 And answering him, Jesus said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" And the blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!"
52 And Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.

Please note the pattern highlighted in the above verses:

1. People who acknowledged their need for healing/deliverance followed or waited on Him.
2. They cried out to Him.
3. They asked for His mercy.
4. They acknowledged His kingly and spiritual authority as the Son of David.
5. They stated their need for healing/deliverance to Him.
6. Jesus always made sure that their faith would hold up when He questioned it.
7. After making sure of their faith, Jesus plainly stated that their faith enabled them to receive the miracle.
8. Jesus performed the miracle.

Be blessed,
Shaun
