The faeries waited with baited breath for the first hint of sunlight to appear upon the darkened horizon. Winter relinquished its icy grip on the world, but for them, creatures of magic, that sign wasn't enough. Only with the release of the scents of early spring blooms would they don their costumes and masks of deep violet and blue. It would soon be time for them to dance, there amongst the newly opened flowers. One of the younger fairies, her fair gaze fixed upon the horizon gasped with delight as the sun began to rise. She picked up her dancing garb, yet didn't yet put it on. She seemed to be waiting for something else. A brilliant, slender beam of light fell upon a small lavender flower. As the faerie maiden watched, the blooms opened, one petal at a time. The delicate scent of the flower reached her nostrils. She dressed herself in the clothes those of her kind had worn for centuries. As the warm sun rained down upon the earth, she leapt, her head and arms gracefully moved, her feet a whisper across the vibrant shroud of flowers. She danced in celebration, for the sweet release of Spring. |
