The Last Thursday in September

On the last Thursday in September,
I listen
to the house noises
wondering if the bump in the night
is a ghost
or just the house settling.

On the last Thursday in September,
I wish for enough money
to fill my gas tank,
so that I can drive out of Las Vegas
to to a high mountain peak
where I can see
star sparking through the night.
