FIRST PLACE WINNER - 30 Day Image Prompt Contest - 30 writes in 30 days. AUG - SEP 2013 |
Tides of Memory Tides shushing in a whispered prayer, provides a mother's guiding touch, chides the children to beware, guides as liquid fingers clutch. Sand castles bravely face the sea, stand with seaweed banners bright, planned with flotsam and debris, command horizons in their sight. Salt and spray sail through the air, assault the fortresses of sand, vault the defense waiting there, halt when forced to by the land. Cries of delight replace qualms, arise as each new wave appears, surprise the dozing Dads and Moms, reprise warm thoughts of long past years. Day 24 - "30 Day Image Prompt Contest - CLOSED" Prompt: Image 1 (Children Holding Hands on Seashore) Form: Lento (Double with Double Rhyme) A Lento consists of two quatrains with a fixed rhyme scheme of abcb, defe as the second and forth lines of each stanza must rhyme. To take it a step further, but not required, try rhyming the first and third lines as well as the second and forth lines of each stanza in this rhyming pattern: abab, cdcd. The fun part of this poem is thrown in here as all the FIRST words of each verse should rhyme. There is no fixed syllable structure to the Lento, but keeping a good, flowing rhythm is recommended. For an added challenge, one may write a four-verse Lento and call it a Double Lento, or a six-versed Lento to become a Triple Lento. |
