Reflections of an Overcomer

Overcomer. Reflect on this.

I look in the mirror,
what do I see?
An overcomer's reality.

The gray hair and wisdom lines indicate
a life of tests and difficulties,
of wisdom acquired
one data bite at a time.

I look at the date,
what do I hear?
Memories of that fateful day and year.

I remember watching
in utter shock
as the towers crumbled to dust,
as survivors felt away
and first responders ran toward.

Has it been only 12 years,
since we watched
our world change forever?

Has it been only 12 years,
since we had to learn to overcome
the fear,
the terror,
and the aftershock
of destruction.

American survived
and overcame,
we are survivors,
we are overcomers:
we must never forget
the date
or the lessons learned.

Green is the color
of the overcomer,
of the survivor;
it signals us
to confidently advance into the future
knowing
we can overcome any barrier,
any fear,
any weakness
in our quest to achieve humanity's
ultimate destiny.
