I am not a Felix Unger
The September 10, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUSOpen in new Window. is
Wildcard Monday Tuesday! You are living in a college dorm or apartment with a roommate. Are you the perfectionist or the slob? Or somewhere in between?
In this living situation, how do you cope with conflict?

I am not a Felix Unger,
I am more of an Oscar Madison.

I have finally came to grips
with my housekeeping weaknesses;
there will always be dust on the top of my bookcase,
I will always have dirty cloths waiting in the hamper,
I will always have sacks of trash to empty,
I will always have dishes soaking in the sink
because I forgot to rinse the supper dishes out
and the food dried overnight.

I am a slob,
a female version of Oscar Madison,
I sweep the floors every three or four days,
I mop the floors once a month
(if I am lucky and undistracted),
and I clean the toilet when it is necessary
(usually when I am expecting friends or family to drop by).

I do not need a roommate,
I do not need a dorm room
or apartment with multiple rooms.

I need a studio apartment,
for myself,
my pet rock,
and my plastic plant.

That way
I do not have to cope
with the conflict,
I do not have to beg forgiveness
on bended knees
(getting down on my knees
is almost impossible at my age),
I can ask my friends
and family to call before they visit,
so that I can clean the bathroom
and mop the floors.
