"Captured Moments" (Poetry/Day 22)
Captured Moments
Sculpted from a moment in time
I stare at the picture intently.
A beautiful woman, a fond farewell kiss,
holding my heart ever gently.
The future was unknown, the world at war,
as I left on that tear-filled day.
Through landings on D-day until Hitler’s fall,
all that I could do was pray.
The war at an end, I was homeward bound
and, as I stepped off the plane,
she was there waiting with open arms
welcoming me home again.
The image releases a warm memory
in my heart, for I’d found what I was seeking.
Someone who knew the depths of my soul
without need for explaining or speaking.
We were just starting off on the journey of life,
guided by dreams that we share.
Time has a way of wearing them down;
these memories will always be there.
Standing, like statues, caught in a flash,
they mark only moments now captured.
They serve as reminders of how we felt
together with our hearts enraptured.
