May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

In your church? I think not.
I responded to someone who indicated that I wouldn't have been homeless if I were a member of her church...

It can happen in any church ...sorry ...shunning is used by many religious groups. Plus, homeless shelters run by churches are some of the worse for anyone with social, mental, or emotional issues. A "normal" family with two kids is acceptable most everywhere. Schizophrenic? Drunk? Gay? Trans-something? Anarchist? Anti-social? Not so acceptable. Even within your church not everyone can toe-the-line just to be accepted. I've spoken to them. Fault? Who cares! People are people and some of us have issues.

Religions have boundaries. Spirituality doesn't. But church organizations have helped lots of people when mere "spirituality" doesn't necessarily. Some of those boundaries lead to shunning or exacerbate homelessness. Save me from the "do-gooders"! would be a battle cry from many of the homeless or unacceptable members of society.

That said, many religious groups do the best they can. So do families, villages, governments... Some could do better. But any group with boundaries will find some inside that boundary and others outside it.

But in your church I wouldn't be homeless? I wouldn't bet on it.
