Why they couldn't quit on that?

What needs to quit is politics. To clean up Lewis Black's one phrase, the political system is "a bowl of [poop] looking in the mirror at itself." Seriously, they are both frat parties that are too inbred to think outside of the box, and are too much in bed with businesses. The average person can't get a word it- and even when one does kick them out, they're set for life.
