Day to day stuff....a memoir without order. |
Jim is rescheduled for cataract surgery this Friday...fingers crossed. And I talked to our daughter for around an hour tonight. She has sent out tons of resumes but no responses yet...fingers crossed there too. I was reading an interesting article in a writer's magazine tonight about setting in a story and how important it is. It made me think about books I've read and realize how true that really is. The setting can actually set the mood of a story, cold, dark, snowy night or hot, sweltering, steamy day. Each one puts you in a different mood, "setting" you up for the story to come. I've never paid that much attention to setting in my stories before but I can see how it is a tool that can be used to advantage...think Ethan Frome...hmmmm. Another article was about writing from prompts, as we do in our own wdc daily flash contest. Usually, that prompt is three seemingly unrelated words. The trick is to make them related. One way I used to do that was to write them across the page and then put synonyms under each one until I found a common denominator. The article I read tonight said to answer the five w's for each word until you have that eureka moment. I'll have to give that a try. until next time....c |
