Day to day stuff....a memoir without order. |
Prompt: Day 14: "Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives." - William James I would agree with this depending on how it is interpreted. I do not think it particularly relates to happiness but rather to how one reacts to different situations. I'm not sure how meditation works but it definitely can change the way we face different things, and I don't think this is anything new. How many of us can remember someone telling us to "count to ten"? Most likely unknown to either party, counting to ten could be considered a quick meditation process....time to think, or meditate, before we act on something. Meditation does clear the mind and allow for a change of mind if we embrace other possibilities. This openess can lead to many changes in the outer aspects of our lives. I knew someone a while back who always said his son knew just how to ring his bell, or in other words, say or do things that upset him. This is a perfect example of where meditation, or a stepping back, and thinking about things before answering or acting can change everything. It stops that hand raised in violence and silences angry words that only lead to more violence and anger. So, yes, if this is what the quote means, I agree wholeheartedly. until next time...c |
