Journal Entry 7: Breaking Through Writer’s Block Exercises Written in March 2010 Word count: 301 I began by listing all ten of the exercises about breaking through writer’s block. Then I chose an exercise to do. I chose exploring the great out doors first. Since I live in Las Vegas, a city with several parks that should be easy to do, I explored the great out doors all right. No, I did not go to a park. I walked through the parking lot of a near by grocery store. I walked through the parking lot of Smiths Food and Drug store twice this week once on Monday and again on Tuesday. I went to pick up prescriptions from the drug store. As I was walking through the parking lot, I noticed that there were ruts and potholes in the parking lot. I noticed the same problem in some of the other grocery store parking lots in town. I wrote about the ruts in the parking lot. I made an entry in "Writing in Snow" called "Exploring the Great outdoors: Ruts in the parking lot" . I also made a list of things that I of issues that are important to me. Under that item, I listed ten topics that I want to write about, some of them I am going to have to research, but others I can simply begin to write about and I will begin with Wednesday’s blog entry. I found those items effective in breaking through writer’s block. I also found that when I write about a subject I have with a rough draft to get my thoughts down in a document. I can make a list of items and ideas or I can simply start writing, which is what I did with the “Ruts in the Parking Lot”. I just started writing and then posted it in the journal. I am going to attempt those exercises again because it was fun and creative. |
