Lesson 3 Writing Assignment Turning on the Lights 26 line poetry Prompt Written in January 2010 Another day of writing Beating time on a keyboard Counting syllables in metered lines Dawn finds me sipping a cup of whole bean coffee Entering words into a document Finding metaphors and similes in the rain Getting up at 4:00 AM I sometimes wonder How the rest of the world can sleep so late I wonder if perhaps these lines should end rhyme Just to fit this poem to the form Knowledge is a dangerous thing, but Lack of knowledge is deadly Maybe I should have written this poem in one setting Now the lines seem like a collection of random thoughts One line written after the other without considering their Possible relationships like strangers that fall in love on a cruse ship Questions never asked haunt the mind after the Relationship ends Since I cannot figure out how to punctuate this poem There is going to be no punctuation at all Unity of theme or subject or emotion is important in a poem Verses sometimes come out of thick or thin are with not kinship to events Which are occurring the poet’s life or an author’s world X is a difficult letter to find an English word for because there are so few You can read into this poem any meaning you want Zephyr a random wind out of nowhere and thought popping into the mind Line count: 26 |
