Other writers say... Achy Obejas will be in Denver at AWP in April: Thou: I left a comment, a while back, in the blog of Ghostranch : Looking for treasure In the things that you threw Like a magpie I live for glitter, not you ***ouch*** We have magpies here [in Montana] and yes, some of us have learned to live of the refuse of others... The italics are from a song, "We are golden" by Mika. There is something deep about those four lines that someone could use as a prompt for a poem or short story. Many of us might relate. I responded to April Sunday about her pet peeve she illuminated for us in her newsletter: Misspellings? How about typos! His retelling of biblical stories about Adam and Abraham inspired me to write one of my own... from the point of view of the Tree of Knowledge... which as far as I know weren't no apple! He did not read his newer "Letter to Hugo from SoDo" but we did talk about Richard Hugo's influence. Dan who was sitting next to me, studied with Hugo in '73. Biespiel is the founder of the Attic in Portland: http://atticwritersworkshop.com/ It was a good evening. Sadly, there were no folks there from UM. I do not understand the academics nor the writing community in general. Is everyone so narcissistic that they can't learn from other writers or at least support them? Argh...
