2010, February 8th SAFE SCHOOL PROPOSAL: Two lawmakers want to exclude gay and lesbian students. Gay rights groups say the bill singles out gay students for harassment. Emily Carlson Reporter 11:13 PM CST, February 7, 2010 My response: Even as an adult I am hurt by the stories of youth being bashed because they are gay. It pulls the scabs off wounds I thought should be healed after over 40 years. I have done numerous quizzes to determine where I should move to in a couple years. Iowa keeps coming up: Dubuque and Iowa City specifically and a friend in Des Moines sings the praises of Ames. Personally, I want to check out Decorah; but... I have little reason to move to a state that protects bigotry. I love the open landscape and friendly people of Iowa but if I have to fear for my life or well-being visiting folks down some rural highway it isn't worth it. Better the pain I know than being a victim of bigots spewing hatred that legislators like Schultz turn a blind eye to. Post 2: Why my post says Huntsville [my posts come up Huntsville, Alabama]I don't know. I live in Western Montana. As for some of the posts. I disagree that other issues are more important. Fighting hatred and supporting Human Rights trumps any financial issue facing the states, imho. I can live on less bread (although I AM a firm believer in universal health care). I can't breathe if someone has a pillow over my mouth. The issue is valid; but, Schultz is just wrong and being mean-spirited.
