*Snowman* Today's scribble

Invaders

On Columbus Day the leaves have died.
Winter comes white before it's time,

Like immigrants, like the dispossessed,
you always come white before your time.

O my lover! Bring me trash of no worth!
Wring my cold sweats before my time.

O Invader! Should I, forewarned,
kiss or kill you before next time?

Columbus Day over, snow melts to wet.
White Death? O Kåre! Pray for this time.

*Snowman* Sketching it out:

I reworked the earlier sketch, and it came out in couplets. I tweaked it into a ghazal (more or less). Mary Jane Nealon's riveting reading of AIDS poems was also swirling around in my head. Not all poetry is puppy dogs and joy-joy. So little of it is...

One thing about the ghazal form: more couplets can be added. And if it makes it stronger, I will. It's also a good form for collaboration. I'm hoping to do that with John Myers this December. And another note: one's name is usually included in the last line. Know that poetry tends to be a mix of fiction and truth.

*Snowman* Me and Mine:

By not going to Chattanooga I've given myself some time to do other things. Like party when they win! *Laugh* I've spoken with my sister about being in Washington around the 27th-30th of December. I was serious about visiting other people, by-the-way.

Montana can be a place of extremes. Tuesday the temperatures rose from the depths of winter to spring heights. Great Falls had the high in the state of 45º after a low of -11º and Jordan reached 21º after a state low of -39º. We in Western Montana did not experience such extremes; but, Wednesday is the first day since December 1st over 32º.

Walking to the store wasn't exactly warm, but the mild air beckoned. My big purchase? Hot cocoa. *Bigsmile*

*Snowman* Montana: 34º, above freezing! in downtown Missoula at noon.
