Song of the Yaak for crickets, owl, fire and drum
"As a blind woman she chose her colors with care; as a deaf man he surrounded himself with song." KE

I guess my point was that one doesn't have to have all the senses to connect with others. I remember my blind friend Don Brown, who loved the color lavender (he was sighted until he was 20) and it only takes common sense for a deaf person to see that hearing people react differently to different types of noise. On a more figurative level, it is about being sensitive and seeking beauty that others appreciate.

"In pain, we drown out silence and vandalize art."

Song of the Yaak for crickets, owl, fire and drum

In the heart of these forests, damp edge of marsh,
crescendo of crickets, an owl-wing's beat,
beneath grey ash of ages, pine roots sleep;
the ranger's outlook, a lighthouse ablaze.

Parched slopes of cedar, expectant for rain,
the gather of storm, the lightning strike's heat,
a rumble of thunder, a deep drum's beat
shouts across ridges, a signal of pain.

When sparks ignite, then as smoke wisps appear,
summoning crickets with loud whirring wings
scattering hunter, hunted, all living things,
you stand there calm at the edge of the marsh,

sounding the drum of the old hollow tree
listening to fire search more things to eat.

Based on a talk by Bass on the marsh of the Yaak.
Needs work, but I figured that if I edited and posted it, I may be able to see/hear what it needs... tomorrow. *Rolleyes*

Me

Yesterday, I rode into Everett talking to a woman who is a shrimp buyer. We talked about aquaculture and commodities. She graduated with an English major years ago; now she's going for her MBA.

We went to the Evergreen State Fair today. Took pictures of chickens and cows. *Smile* Managed to find a rose colored sarong with a Celtic-knot design that made Becca happy. Drank a purple cow...

Had roasted beets out of Dan's garden for supper. *Delight*

Gavin is now 7 months old. He is very sociable and wasn't frightened of me. Of course, when I picked him up I managed to get pee all over my shirt, but hey... that's what a nuncle is for.
