The Assumption of Course
Istijlál (Majesty), 12 ‘Azamat (Grandeur), 166 BE – Thursday, May 28, 2009 about 2:48 PM Pacific Time

Many readers assume
that I (the voice)
and that I (the poet)
are the same.

This is not always true,
but this is the assumption many make
unless the reader differentiates
between dramatic monologue
and confessional poetry.

The issue
of The Voice and The Poet
is on all poets must deal
and come to terms with.

The question now is this:
Am I the voice of the poem
or Am I the poet?

Note: This is inspired by this week’s poetry newsletter.
