I’m from America’s Hometown
Jalál (Glory), 7 ‘Azamat (Grandeur), 166 BE – Saturday, May 23, 2009 about 5:05 PM Pacific Time

I googled, Blackwell, Oklahoma, the town where I was born and raised and I found it’s been christened America’s Hometown. So now when anyone in the world ask where I’m from, I can say “I was born and raised in America’s Hometown.”

I have some intriguing memories of Blackwell and the surrounding area. I remember Grandpa taking us to a lake outside of Blackwell. I never knew the name of the lake because we always referred to it as The Lake. According to the information on the Chamber of Commerce web page http://www.blackwellchamber.org/index.asp under Area Information, the closest lake to Blackwell is Kaw Lake. It’s about 15 miles from the city of Blackwell, so I guess that was the lake grandpa’s mobile home was located.

The Chamber of Commerce webpage has some interesting information about the city where I grew up. There are historic bits of information I don’t think I knew. I knew Blackwell was founded around the time of the Land Run, but other information on the History page I don’t remember knowing. I hope the city schools are teaching that history information to the students. A person should know some history of the town in which she or he was born and raised.
