The Continuing Saga of Prosperous Snow |
Fidál (Grace), 3 ‘Azamat (Grandeur), 166 BE – Tuesday, May 19, 2009 about 7:20 AM Pacific Time In 2009, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 25, which means there will be no mail that day and the banks closed. Actually, May 25 is the observance of Memorial Day. Traditionally Memorial Day falls on May 30, but since everyone has to have a three-day holiday we observe it on May 25 this year. I can remember when a three-day holiday occurred because either Memorial Day fell on Monday, May 30 or on Friday, May 30; the date wasn’t moved to because May 30 happen to fall on a Saturday, which it does this year. Three-day holidays have little effect on me anymore. They used to, when I worked in places that were closed for the holiday, but any more it’s just another day of doing laundry, carrying trash to the garage, feeding cats and sifting cat litter. Since I can check my bank account online and transfer money or pay bills electronically, it doesn’t matter if the banks are closed or open that day. The gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and coffee shops are still open. I do have to plan ahead somewhat because the food banks are closed that day, but otherwise a three-day holiday has little or no effect on the way I do business anymore. |
