Decuain
The Decuain (deck-won) is yet another poetry form I found at www.shadowpoetry.com

The Decuain, a form created by Shelley A. Cephas, consists of
~~one stanza of 10 lines
~~each line contains ten syllables written in iambic pentameter
~~there are only three rhymes in the stanza, with the following options for rhyme scheme:
ababbcbcaa, ababbcbcbb, or ababbcbccc

~~if the poet wishes, he can add as many stanzas as he/she wishes, as long as each stanza contains ten lines of iambic pentameter and follows one of the suggested rhyme schemes.

Following is a Decuain poem I created, followed by a challenge to the reader.

Christmas in a Cluttered Ford

She held her purse and walked the busy aisles
to find a toy, one cheap she could afford.
She thought of him this morning, all in smiles.
She’d told him Santa Claus was coming; he’d roared
with ecstasy inside their cluttered Ford.
She counted coins and dollar bills, each one -
a tiny stash she’d persevered to hoard
to buy this Christmas toy to give her son.
But Christmas night, afraid, she came undone;
she held him close and begged for morning’s sun.

“Christmas in a Cluttered Ford” is a poem about homelessness.
This Christmas, many families will be homeless. They will have
little, if any, finances to buy gifts for their children. After
Christmas, they will still be homeless, cold, and afraid – some
living in the backseat of a car. They are good people who have
come across hard times and they need our help to get back on their
feet. Find out how you can help homeless families in your community –
get involved to alleviate homelessness and help restore dignity to
those who have lost so much.
