Dec 15 - Blogging

"December 15 - Blog on the spot, spot the blog

I never really took to reading other’s blogs and doing my own – something about the term blog just sounds ugly to me.  However, that being said, when we thought my 3 yo (when he was 6 mos old) had a stroke in utero, I was desperate for information.  I found many mother’s “blogs” about their kids on the internet and was glued to reading them b/c they were everyday experiences, not prettied up for publication or edited for what “should” be made public or not.  Thankfully, whatever caused the high muscle tone in my little one did nothing long term but make him strong as an ox and turned him into a little bull dozer (a healthy active one at that).  I haven’t read them since but I am thankful they were there for me when I needed them.  Since that time, I have read some “online journals” and have enjoyed some of them.  I have to have some interest in what they are saying or their personality or I really don’t read but a few entries and go one.  I feel if something in a journal inspires one to write a poem or story, that will end up in their port at some point anyway.

Now, I have read Dr. Taher’s blog and have thoroughly enjoyed many of his entries.  He lives in Mumbai and writes about the daily happenings in his work and things he notices on his average days as a pediatrician (check out the one about restrooms in India – It is a hoot!)  Reading his blog gives me information I would not get otherwise, living here in Alabama and it made the events that occurred in Mumbai even more disturbing knowing an actual person who lives there.

Since starting this challenge, I think I have a new respect for the blog.  The experience of writing whatever comes to mind without the internal editor is valuable to see in each other’s blogs that we are not alone after all.  For education and for the ability to know more about our fellow man, I think this is a great tool and I will be more apt to read other’s blogs from now on.  This is also probably the first time I have written daily for two whole weeks in a diary/journal type thing.  Typing it is much better for me as I type about as fast as I think-handwriting slows me down.  (although perhaps that would be a good thing LOL).  So thanks Earl for doing this contest to get me in the habit of writing my thoughts daily.
