I saw the article too and intended to write an entry about it.

I think the parents should've reconsidered the names; but ...

parents do many strange things. The child can simply adopt a nickname.

Just because the parents made a questionable choice does not excuse the other adults from their mean and bigoted responses. Even a swastika shouldn't have offended anyone with a proper education. It is a very ancient religious symbol.

I wouldn't want the state deciding which names are allowable like they do in some countries. Better to allow people to make mistakes than to try to control other people's lives.
