Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills. |
Mount Index The first time ever I saw your face, stark silhouette against an eastern sky, I did not realize how shy, how blank, how bleak you were. Then cloud shrouded, you hid your visage in a rage of rain, filling the banks of Skykomish River, fogging windshields of the bus, the cars that passed below you. Second time ever I saw your face, covered with white lace against a clear blue plate hugging the horizons: you stared north, still bleak, still blank, still unaware of my presence. © 2007 Kåre Enga [164.427] 2007-12-17 Mount Index: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Index Climbing Mount Index: http://www.climbingwashington.com/classics/mountindexnfnp.htm Nice photo: http://www.livingwilderness.com/mountains/mtindexv.html I could see Mount Index from my sister's in Snohomish/Monroe, Washington. When it was clear, of course. It towers over Steven's Pass and US Hwy 2 that the bus takes from Everett to Leavenworth and Wenatchee. NEW JERSEY VENGEANCE, a short personal rant. When my friend Darlene Antrum buried her son Alvin Antrum (age 18) after he was stabbed to death, her family had already started the process of reconciliation with the family of the man who stabbed him. Darlene had laid the burden down. She didn't have to. She could've held onto to her sorrow, cloaked herself in bitter weeds, choked off all possible happiness. She forgave and chose joy instead. Lessons like this can be life changing. It is too bad when relatives harbor hatred, nurture revenge, blind themselves with blood lust. Perhaps most can understand this eye-for-an-eye attitude better than the love that welled within my friend. Perhaps Darlene should visit the bitter folks in New Jersey who are burdened and won't let go: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071218/ap_on_re_us/death_penalty_new_jersey ME: Nauseated by Bondo car body filler last night. Not happy. Went to Aimee's ... quiet when all the students are gone and all the town folk are at WalMart and Target. Got a letter and card from my sister and card from my mother. My sister's year-end letter mentioned my visits, of course! I will be getting a new phone (same number). Every two years Verizon pulls out its magic wand and voilà. I eat; therefore, I expand.
