Ethiopian nights for Abera He lit paths with candles; with clay vessels of oil banished the gloom of dark moon nights: burdened Abera, light- bearer, bringer of light. © 2007 Kåre Enga [164.426] 2007-12-17 An eintou (I think) 'pearl' according to this link I found in a poem of larryp: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=160809446&blogID... Not totally pleased with this, but it is a beginning. (I'm not pleased with 'burdened' but like the alliteration ('weighed down' is worse) and the connection between light-not-dark vs. light-not-heavy). It does follow the 2-4-6-8-6-4-2 template and seems to crescendo and decrescendo properly. Yesterday at Z's, I warned Abera that I write poetry based on what people do and say. He said his name means 'he who brings light' (more-or-less) in Amharic. He is originally from Ethiopia. ME: I'm thinking of making a social contract with house mate #3 to work out issues on what our expectations are re privacy, utilities (heat, light, water), rent, cleaning, cooking, etc. When house mate #2 comes back, it will have to be renegotiated: but, I cannot continue to live here under these circumstances and if no agreement can be arrived at, I'll have to leave ... a.s.a.p. Where? Places on my short list: Emporia, Kansas; Tulsa-Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Missoula, Montana. No matter where I am, I'll need to travel to Tulsa, Tahlequah and Missoula. I have family on both coasts and many friends in the Mid-West. Anyone out there who can gift me an airplane/train/bus all-you-can-fly/sit/crawl ticket? Friend called from Emporia inviting me over for Christmas (his grandfather suggested it). I mentioned maybe 3-4 days. Unless I have a ride up and down, I'll need to take the 1 1/2 hour, 84 mile (oh my ) bus ride. After the 2 2-day (one-way) trips to Washington State (my aching bones) I think I can handle this. Now to see whether I can afford it on those dates (always harder around holidays). I'm not doing anything for Christmas (I personally do not celebrate it) and most everything here will be closed: the library for 3 days, Indy Inc. for 4. The weather isn't supposed to be too bad, but Kansas ain't exactly tropical and it's not like I have a wood lot to chop to keep me occupied ... so ... sounds good to me. There may be chores there on the farm though and I'd have to find out what their expectations are from me. If it is a typical German-Kansas family (the name is German) than there will be traditions to respect and follow. BLOGVILLE: Haven't gotten around to all my favorites, and some folks aren't blogging like they used to ... (some are ill or indisposed, I understand that; others just taking a vay-kay). So ... I have been reading some new folks (or at least, new to me!). Still haven't transfered all my links from my old blog to this one , but slowly re-capturing folks. If I have neglected you, e-mail me or leave a comment mentioning that. My brain can resemble swiss cheese. Kansas: 31 sun-shiny degrees. 1364 |
