Long distance caw
Long distance caw

         for a friend

Edgar Allen Crow does not want
to say hello, just caws and caws;
the red macaw just stares there silent.

Warm winds whip. The birds sleep silent.
Ripples cross o'er Mary's Lake. I want
to call you, like a black bird, caw

if just to hear my voice and caw
as if you would caw back. Those silent
ripples greet me; winds caress me. I want ...

You want ...

and stare, like a red macaw, in silence.

A tritina (see previous two blog entries) based on going to Mary's Lake (it's a big muddy pond) yesterday when the hot wind was howling from the south. I visited Prairie Park where they have some birds that cannot be released for various reasons: eagle, hawk, vulture, owl ...

Edgar Allen Crow was imprinted and raised by humans. He does say 'hello' (wouldn't yesterday), 'want out' (that he did) and 'caw-caw-caw' in a human voice. He's a hoot. One of the caretakers keeps telling him "nevermore" but he won't repeat that!

I wrote a couple lines in a postcard to a friend and then took that and wrote the first stanza. The words: want, caw, silent ain't the easiest to work with! They do have a scarlet macaw; but he's got a huge beak, brutal claws and isn't very sociable. He glares ...

Would love to call my friend I dedicate this too; even greater if he'd call me. *Bigsmile*

IMAGES:

Coffee; dappled grey skies, light and dark; broken oak limb; plastic torn off the roof of a shed; veiled eyes staring at me from the coffeehouse walls.

FOOTBALL:

Kansas is 7-0 ... okay, the win over Colorado wasn't exactly pretty, but ask Kentucky or California if they would've preferred an ugly win over their pretty-little-losses! Montana is also 7-0 and rolled over Northern Colorado. I think they need to win 3 of 4 remaining games to guarantee a good playoff spot. Their main competitor is U Northern Iowa (awesome this year). Montana's final game is at Montana State and that will not be easy. KU is bowl-bound already, but needs three more wins out of 5 to land a spot on New Year's day. Undefeated? I doubt it; especially this year-of-the-upset.

And how about North Dakota States' stomp in Minnesota. *Laugh* Life is good.

ME:

Popped an abscess yesterday. It resisted, so I'm not thrilled as it will need to be popped again. Aren't you glad now that you asked how I am?

Kansas: grey skies clearing and not as windy nor wild as yesterday. 66 degrees.
