For the Poetry Challenge by Ter |
Silence away from the city bustle Rustling of wind’s music to my ears Whisper to me your secrets Let me dream of home Wall of thin strips waiting on lightning Flames leap across the horizon Leaving naught but ash behind them To nourish the next season’s growth Green-gold grasses taller than me I take three steps and lose myself Safely wrapped inside the prairie Here I stay so none may find me I feel the ancestors' call to follow the sun The wind roars a beat to my heart's drum I hear the whisper of the old land's secrets My dreams take root and grow My vision filled with myriad stalks Reaching skyward everywhere I walk All frame of reference lost in the waves I am one small speck among the masses Sounds from the world all blocked out I hear the music over my loudest shout Lush grassland calls to my blood I wander alone toward the dusk Prairie homeland of my mother's folk The grassland winds call me onward Whisper to me your secrets Let me dream of home Prompt Subject: The Great Outdoors - Pick Only ONE: Forest/Woods, Desert, Ocean, Mountain, River, Island, Polar Ice Cap, Prairie/Grassland Word(s) to use: music Word(s) not to use: beauty, beautiful, nature, natural, peaceful, serene Other requirements/restrictions: This is descriptive poetry; must be twelve (12) lines minimum. |
