Poised in prayer. Albedo/libido?
Poised in prayer

It is in the slow turn of the head
the light green pose so statuesque,
one soon forgets she's but a living stick,
barbed legs and fangs, no nun.
She once had sisters but she ate them all.
She has not one. Her hormones moan,
her pheromones have brought a suitor.
She tilts her head, admires his sex:
her object of delight, her dinner.

I wrote this while reading a chapter of Ted Kooser's book, Poetry Repair Manual where he makes reference to a praying mantis as a writing prompt. We should all have an insect poem to go along with kittens, puppies and children. *Bigsmile*

At Kentucky and 11th (the big white house ... you know the one!): Blue spiderwort; pink yarrow; wren?; purple honesty; purple-pink coneflower; orange daylily and yellow dandelion; muddy red brick paths; a porch of potted plants (no pot).

AFTERNOON THOUGHTS:

Are we all a spectrum of light, a segment of some solar rainbow, an interstelar flight of fantasy? What difference then between the blue of cyan and dark purple? How did chloroplasts that bind energy through light to become the batteries of plants evolve from one set of bacteria (cyano bacteria) while mitochondria found in humans come from another ancient branch (purple bacteria). In our origins, is all life ... light?

If albedo is a measurement of the reflection of light and libido the measurement of emotional energy usually associated with sexual drive:
1. Does your albedo increase with sexual delight?
2. Does your libido increase with the reflection of moonlight?
3. Why do these words rhyme if not to amuse us?
