Response to "Hidden Lakes" by ElaineElaine for "Invalid Item" by A Guest Visitor I love to hear streets, townships, and towns with unusual names. The sent my muse into a frenzy. They lift my imagination into orbit. My earliest memory of a town with an unusual name has to do with Missouri. The town is Gravette. The only thing I remember about that town is a sign that gave its name. In fact, I don’t think I ever saw the town. I remember we went to Missouri with my Grandpa and Grandma Newland. I think we were going to a funeral or it could have been on a Memorial Day and we were visiting graves. Anyway, I remember Grandpa pointing out the sign and laughing. I’d never heard of a town called Gravette before. I remember I thought it was interesting that the name rhymed with Grapette (which was one of my favorite sodas). Since then I’ve encountered several intriguing names for towns and streets. Las Vegas is a good place to encounter unusual street name. There are streets called Peace Way, Soaring Gulls, and Whisky to name just a few. We also have a township here called Paradise. If you do an internet search for unusual town names or odd town names, you can find a multitude of weird, unusual and interesting names.
