SUMMER IN THE HILLS


Those were the days that I miss
When summer in the hills
Meant going out on picnics
Without the icy chills.

As children we used to raid
The neighbourhood orchards.
And return with bagfuls of
Apples, almonds homewards.

Internet and mobile phone
Were not yet invented.
From going out to forests
We were not prevented.

Flowers, birds and butterflies
And squirrels and rabbits
Were my daily companions
In my wildest habits.

Those memories of childhood,
Though buried in the past,
Will be ever in my heart
Until my very last.
