OWFI group and conference

There isn't a Oklahoma Writers Federation writing group close by with room to take any more members, so I'm starting a group. Our name is Pen and Keyboard Writers. The organizational meeting with be May 20 at the Edmond Library. Jacque Graham is helping me. We will meet once a month.

The Pen and Keyboard Writers will become an affiliate of OWFI, because they offer some very good benefits to writers, including the conference in Oklahoma City every year.

As part of the activities, a contest with 29 catagories is open to all OWFI members. This year I entered only two because I didn't find out about it until it was too late to prepare any more (the deadline for entries was February 1). Next year I plan on having more entries. I also hope that members of the new group will enter, too.

The conference this year starts early Friday morning, day after tomorrow. It lasts two very full days. As part of the registration, we paid for a banquet each night. Friday night's banquet honors those who had a book or books published in 2005. I will be one of the honorees. Saturday's banquet will honor the winners of this year's contests. Whew, have my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed - actually I've been praying - that at least one of my entries won something.

The conference also has agents and editors who will be speakers and who will schedule appointments with members who request one. I have an appointment with an agent.

A book room is available to sell books of any one attending who want to put them in the "book store." Both Hidden and Lies and Other Stories and Walking the Earth: Life's Perspectives in Poetry will be there. An autograph party (book signing) will be held Saturday afternoon. Jacque and I will both be there, too.

I'll write about what all happens when I get back home Sunday. Since everything goes so late, into the next morning, we're staying two nights. I don't think we want to drive home at 2 AM Sunday morning.
