Winter: 2 Ayyám-i-Há (February 27) 2006-02-27 afternoon, 65 degrees. 23 in Cheektowaga, NY. Cold on my sister's birthday. Snowflakes too. But she's used to that. All ___ years! Spring will come early here. With no cold weather in sight we can only pray for some rain. It is very dry and the heat will stress the trees and flowers. Not good. May hit 80 later this week. SENSED A piece of plastic fluttering from a twig, making a shadow of a bird; new hypericum leaves, mere 'needles'; blue and purple striped tulip leaves; strong smell of perfume in the Men's Room. Had a good lunch: bow pasta with spinach, chicken, parmesan cheese. Is this a là florentine? Still not feeling well. Whole head stuffed up. Sore throat. Vomitting this morning may have helped. And more snot than I knew what to do with. Drank my coffee black with lots of honey. I thought it would be nice to let you-all get to know me . So maybe over the next month, I will! GETTING TO KNOW ME 1. My favorite colors are orange and green. 2. My bird is the oriole. 3. My favorite baseball team is the Baltimore Orioles. 4. One of my favorite trees is the elm. Orioles nest in elms. Orioles are orange. Elms are green. 5. I like watching baseball and volleyball in person. I prefer college basketball and tennis on tv. 6. The only sport I was competant in as a teenager was wrestling. 7. I like watching friends play hockey. Can't stand it on tv. 8. I did not see Sweden defeat Finland in hockey. I was happy for both teams. 9. I love the Winter Olympics, but did not have an oportunity to watch them at all. I don't own a tv. 10. I cheer for my Jayhawks, except when they are arrogant. In which case, go Bucknell! I was not sad Kansas lost early last year in basketball. 2006-02-27 vespers, 69 degrees. 34 in Bellefontaine, OH. Have a 3 pm appt. tomorrow that may take up 3 or 4 hours of my day, because of the way the buses run; but, it will be worth it if Jeanette can help me. Very pleasant day here. Helped Owen and Dreama finish a puzzle (yes, all the pieces were there!). I felt better as the day went on but I tend to feel worse at night. Saw Ryan who had a Bat Cave shirt on. He's worked in one in his home town of Noel, Mo. He mentioned how they would fly so close he could feel the 'wind off the bat wings'. There's a poem hiding somewhere in there! Sketched today: Long lonely strides Seas of grass, brown quiescent, quiver before the burn. I walk across the baked dry stream, hear the squawk of the lonesome gull, a cry for mud. I hold vigil through long lonely strides. The marsh spreads silent. Where I turn my eyes, green peeks at the base of stalks, small specks of algae and duckweed wait some warmth. I'd wade across, sink in mud. But I'm not nuts or looking to die today. Scent of smoke, a crying gull, edge of a storm etched by sunbeams. A rainbow ends the vigil of the grass. I walk quiescent across the quaking loneliness, I glide with long lonely strides. [162.775] This came from reading a review of Brokeback Mountain, where the reviewer (johanadam.wong) depicted the movie as 'loneliness in large lonely strides'. I take inspiration wherever I can find it . |
