THE FINAL DAY: a sonnet
THE FINAL DAY: a sonnet
[Shall it be a day of mourning or rejoicing?]
A day will come when I shall be no more;
I shall not breathe the fragrance of this earth.
That day may be delayed but will come sure.
Then I shall be beyond all woe or mirth.
All whom I love and who love me today
Will one day be beyond my reach or grasp.
They’ll put me in my grave and go away.
I shall have none but my own hand to clasp.
Shall that be a day of mourning for me,
When I cast my worn out mortal raiment?
No, if one day from this world I am free,
I would enter His kingdom that moment.
Shall I lament quitting this lowly world?
Or, rejoice that I go to hear His word?
