WHEN MY TURN COMES: a sonnet
WHEN MY TURN COMES: a sonnet
[All of us shall have our turn. Why fear it?]
When my turn comes to bid goodbye to all
And start afresh on a journey unknown;
Shall such change I endeavour to forestall
Because it may be painful and forlorn?
Shall I look forward to what lies ahead?
Or, shall I lament and pine for my past?
Of future, shall I be too much afraid?
Or, shall I joyfully uphold the mast?
Often we cry when we ought to rejoice.
Often we treat a shadow as a ghost.
We fail to listen to our inner voice.
That which has gone we often miss the most.
Surprisingly in this drama of life,
Against ourselves we sometimes wield the knife.
