Mowing His Lawn
Being new at mowing, Lily recalled her husband's instructions as she maneuvered.
"Careful 'round the edges," he'd said. "Don't zigzag. Or rush. Nothing's wrong with taking it slow. And never be embarrassed or ashamed."
Joe's last six words always stuck in her mind when she mowed. They reminded her to double-check that the drapes were drawn. She couldn't live with herself if any of their nosey neighbors spied her mowing, as her husband called it.
A lot of good it did her to complain about his unruly lawn, as she'd called it. Look where it'd gotten her.
Lily shut off the razor, satisfied her husband's back was clean-shaven again.
