I think that fasting is a good thing. For me, food can be a distraction from prayer, or from being spiritually minded. I'm not dogmatic about it, and I'm pretty sure that I could benefit by doing so more often.

Fasting and prayer are often put together.

Ezra 8:23
"So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and He answered our prayer."

Matthew 4:4
"Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Joel 2:12:
"Even now," declares the Lord, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning" (I believe "weeping and mourning" here are signs of repentance).

Nehemiah 1:4
When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

I'm sure there may be other scriptures that are better examples, but these ones came up when I looked up fasting/prayer in Search engine.

Prayer Prompt: Ask God to bring peace and resolution to communities impacted by injustice.

Blog prompt: What are your views on fasting? Do you think a Christian should fast?
