Invention of Whiskey and Beer a Gift from God

Invention of Whiskey and Beer a Gift from God

“Perhaps you're with someone, the lights still on,” looking at her..
“In my whole life, I only loved one woman”, with all my heart.
“The eternal has its own laws” which Satan and God must follow..
“When all at once it ceased to sing”, and life came to a stop.
“I wonder who thought that idea up and who first made a cup” of whiskey.
“When you worked all day in the burning sun.”,” at the end of the day”
and crave a glass of ice-cold beer, “It’s Miller time” a gift from the Gods.

“A Few Words About Van Gogh”
by Anzhelina Polonskaya

Right now perhaps you're holding a horse by the bridle.
Perhaps you're with someone, the lights still on.
Is there any more freedom than in the word dearth?
I don't even know whether this is a poem or a diary.

In my whole life I only loved one woman
with nonfilial love. Inside my mouth there's an
indescribable movement, most likely unattractive,
like a spasm. When the pencil falls from your hands.

It's not that I'll never see
sixteen again, nor even thirty.
But something's been breached. The book of coldness written
smoothly, like the defendant’s bench.

When Van Gogh was dying, his last
words were said to be "sorrow will last forever."
That could be anyone's epitaph.
The eternal has its own laws.

“Conceit”
by Mervyn Peake

I heard a winter tree in song
Its leaves were birds, a hundred strong;
When all at once it ceased to sing,
For every leaf had taken wing.

"Windmill Cup"
by Lee Brock

In old West Texas where I grew up
At each windmill there hung a cup -
A twisted wire handle on an old tin can,
To catch a drink for a thirsty man.

When you worked all day
In the burning sun
And came home to the mill
When the day was done,
A nice cool drink from the windmill cup
Could lift your weary spirit up.

I wonder who thought that idea up,
To turn wire and can into a cup?
He was a genius of the highest clan
Who did so much for the good of man.

He had no patent nor copyright;
He never got wealthy overnight,
But I take my hat off to the man
Who first made a cup
From an old tin can.

Today is Cliché Day, a day dedicated to using and celebrating clichés.
It's a day when people are encouraged to use as many clichés as possible
in their conversations and writing, just for fun.

FYI: A saying or adage is a familiar phrase that purports to have wisdom in it.
A cliché is a familiar phrase that has become too familiar.
