Prompt: Why is Jerusalem important in the Bible?

Most of the old testament took place there. The new testament was important to Jerusalem as well. Jesus was of great importance in Jerusalem. The jews prayed to all directions there. They ate fruit. Jerusalem was like the capital of the middle east. Other important Bible characters lived their life there. Great events from the Bible took place in Jerusalem. Even Non Christians have heard of Jerusalem. You always associate Jerusalem with Christianity and everything spiritual and religious. It is safe to say Jerusalem is a key city in the Bible and the Middle East. Too bad, it isn't peaceful there.
