F-2: The Mad Hatter
Forever stuck in time! Write a story (or short poem) where your character is always stuck at 6 p.m. (<1000 words or < 40 lines)
the moment they tell us
his brain is dead
lasts eternally,
my sister reels with the last
remnants of hope while her son
lingers, and
the clock swings
back and forth,
across 6 pm
like a metronome,
ticking out a repeated rhythm
without any attachment
to time,
the heart monitor repeats
its meaningless, mechanical note,
everyone lingers at the cusp of movement
stops,
reverses,
shatters . . .
reforms,
broken.
A lovely poem. However, as sad and poignant as it is, be aware that the prompt insists that the time 6 o'clock is featured in some way.
As much as we try to weave in the elements of our reality, remember we are also paying tribute to Alice in Wonderland and Carroll's style/theme of writing. *Smile*
See? Just that one extra line you have added makes it even more tangible. Now we are able to visualize a particular hour of the day, and have all those emotions swirl and concentrated upon it, making the moment heavier.
