A blog detailing my writing over the next however long. |
November 16, 2023, 8:30pm So… Some story events. Not all of them brilliant… hence the horribly low word count (overall). Doing a quick spell-check of Raven, I discovered an entire sub-plot that meant nothing and which I’d not even closed off. As such, I went through and deleted everything to do with that plot-line, which was merely another boy being interested in the MC’s girlfriend. It was a complication that added nothing – she was already the demon-thing’s ex – and the fact I forgot about it showed how vital it was. Therefore, I deleted a heap of words… and so Raven has gone from 89764 to 86278 words. 3 and a half thousand words wiped out. Wow! So, anyway, I started what is currently called “song muse story” because there is no title, and wrote a quick-fire 4390 words of that, introducing Titania, who is the PoV character, in her early 40s, and some of the facts about her past, especially a relationship with Frank, who has become a songwriter. He’s sent her a song which is about her and their break-up. I think I can see where this is going. I think. But these are characters in their 40s; I have a feeling they are going to be less co-operative with me than the teenagers in Raven. Even more than the last story, this one is character-driven, being a romance. I mean, the end of the story is obvious from the word go, but it’s how they get me there that is going to be interesting. It is probably going to be a 20k-25k word novella, though; the concept is too slight for a full-on novel. Total words: 90672 song muse story words: 4390 Raven word count: 86278 Daily words (cumulative): 908 |
