Going Cold Turkey
Going Cold Turkey

What does ‘going Cold Turkey’ mean? It’s probably not what you may think it means. It has nothing to do with smoking or quitting smoking. For me, it means no television or movies to distract me from my writing. That is what I had to do today to get three more sections/parts for the WDC Short Story I’m writing this month.

Why do I normally, no pun intended, need to go Cold Turkey? It’s usually because it’s the last few days until the end of the month. and I’m not finished writing a Short Story. I need to go Cold Turkey in order to finish it by the end of the month. That doesn’t apply this month just yet. But I did it today anyway.

I still have a couple of weeks to finish it. So, why did I go Cold Turkey now? It’s not because of Thanksgiving, either. That’s next Thursday. It’s because of my Water Wars scriptwriting project. I’m going to be finishing Episode Two of this project in a week or two probably. And I still haven’t transcribed my handwriting to my laptop yet.

True, with only a few days, I probably won’t get too much scanning done with my handwriting. But even a few days will help. That’s one of the reasons why I want to get my WDC Short Story done as soon as possible. Another reason is that I don’t like waiting until the last second to create and enter a contest. Something might happen to stop that.

So, what happened today that I had to go Cold Turkey today? What is the usual reason? It’s because of what my brother and I needed to do today. We didn’t have a lot that needed to get done today. But what we needed to do took us most of the day to do it. As a result, I only had a few hours left in the day to work on my WDC Short Story.

I didn’t know my brother and I had things we needed to get done today. If I hadn’t of gone Cold Turkey, I would have gotten three more parts/sections done for this Short Story.
I may have gotten two done at the most. But would have been one if I was lucky. The only way to get three done was to go Cold Turkey. So, that’s what I did.

What does that mean for the last three sections/parts of this Short Story? it means that I will need to finish them next week during my days off from work aka Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I may get one done next Monday if I’m lucky. If I’m not lucky, then I will need to get all three done on Tuesday. I did it this week, I can do it again.

Best case scenario, I get one part/section done on Monday. And the other two on Tuesday. I may even have time to create and enter this contest on Tuesday. I’m not going to count on that until it happens, though. I may barely get the two or three written on Tuesday. The only way of doing it all on Tuesday is going Cold Turkey again.
