A blog detailing my writing over the next however long. |
October 10, 2023, 12:15pm I am trying to make this blogging thing a part of my day for two reasons - one, it is keeping my brain on something akin to an even keel; and two, it is helping me make up my minimum daily word count. Yes, every single day since at least 1996, I have written at least 250 words a day. Since 2018, it's been 500. Why those numbers? Why not? Even if the words come to nothing, it is a habit, and it is a writing habit, and it ensures my brain is not focused solely on me and the shit in my life. So, writing. This morning I completed a poem that I've been working on since yesterday, written for the "Merit Badge Magic" Halloween section. It is probably going to upset all those United Etatians who think the USA can do nothing wrong, but I am sick of caring about the world's New Roman Imperial Power and what it thinks of me. Why, yes, I did have another story rejected for being "too Australian," why do you ask? Anyway, I am also writing a new Weekend Notes column and, as such, am currently listening to a lot of songs. I think this is why I can write constantly, and why I have such a large output. And it might be something to help other writers... which, let's be serious, is why I started this blog in the first place. Sorry, the why: it's because I do not write only one thing, in only one genre. This month alone I have finished a horror novel, written a humour poem, written a standard poem, written a horror short story, reviewed a book, written about music, written a fantasy short story, written a romance flash fiction piece, and written an essay for an online magazine about a lesson I learned in life. Having a wide repertoire of things to write means if something isn't working, going to something else involves a change of mind-set, which makes everything so much cleaner and writings do not interfere with other writings because a humour poem is very different from a column of songs about eagles. Anyway, someone out there might be interested. |
