Prompt 2 (7th August 2023)
Summer Haze

Dave drove a DAF truck
hauling heavy machinery
down from Darlington
to Birmingham
right in the middle of the land
due in at dawn after a three hour ride
(more like two and a half with Dave's lead foot)
radio burbling
a bit of company
not that he feels lonely
independent in outlook is Dave
cherishes the peace his cab provides
and the private pleasures
like watching the dawn unfold
the particulates that permeate
the periphery of the horizon
pollution he images
but delightful nevertheless
as the summer sun stirs
before making her grand entrance
she sends forth long rays of light
blood dark haze brightens to burnished gold
heralding the breaking of another beautiful day
Sighing with pleasure Dave shifts gear
skilfully guides his cargo to its destination
